Primarily I hope to contrast the major storyline departures of the movie with the Noah narrative in the Old Testament and references in the New Testament. The Noah found in the film appears more conflicted than the Biblical Noah. That is pretty disappointing. The filmic Noah initially believes that humanity is inherently wicked and should die out, along with his immediate family, who he doesn’t want to procreate. The psychological burden of that lengthy ordeal of building, preaching, toiling and rejection would have destroyed the average person (Hebrews 11:7, 1 Peter 2:5). Luckily, that is just exactly the Creator’s specialty. So if you decide to see Noah just be prepared to see a film that takes one of the most significant TRUE stories of the Old Testament -- original sin, redemption, and God’s covenant with man -- and transforms it into a biblical-style “Lord of the Rings” with a cast that has those hard-to-pronounce Old Testament names. It distorts biblical truth in a way that is dangerous and will have a corrupting influence on those who watch the film without an accurate understanding of what the Bible … In Hebrew culture, rewards of food and blessings is what Noah wanted. In the Bible the human passengers on the ark are Noah, his wife, their sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, and their wives. Thanks a great deal, these records ended up being spot on in my opinion. Fair disclaimer, but it's likely not one that will reach all filmgoers who see "Noah" with the expectation that the Aronofsky's version will closely mirror the biblical series of events. I know a bit about apocryphal stories and mysticism, but clearly not as much about Kabbalah, otherwise I bet all of that would’ve been pretty obvious. One item that Christian viewers will likely notice is that God is never referred to as “God” in the film, but as the “Creator.” If it is a deliberate effort to avoid any sort of controversy, it seems like an odd one since the film’s spirituality and Biblical basis are inarguable.
